Abstract

This is a very small and unique group that started gathering and sharing their poetry and culture in Astoria Oregon, in 1998. The annual gathering celebrates the fishing industry and culture surrounding it through “poetry, prose, and song.” Commercial fishing is a crucial part of Astoria's culture. The fisher poets gatherings have grown from a small annual gathering to a much larger weekend event that is celebrated all throughout the city’s restaurants and pubs.
