The Fisher Poets Gathering started in 1998 and continues annually during the last weekend in February.  This event has many locations throughout the city of Astoria and throughout the surrounding community, providing opportunities for commercial fisherman and women from around the country to gather and share works about their industry. The Fisher Poet Gathering is marked by poetry, music, and many other forms of artistic expression aiming to present the uniqueness of the culture of commercial fisherman as well as shedding light on the many conservation attempts aimed at preserving the environment and the future of the commercial fishing industry.
